Make beats at home with DUBTurbo 1.5
65DUBTurbo 1.5 beat maker
The reason you're here is probably because you want to start to make your own beats at home and don't know where to start. This post is about a beat maker called DUBTurbo which, in my opinion, is the best beat maker on the market for the beginner.
My name is Colin, and i'll take you through why DUBTurbo is so good.
If you're just starting out, this can have you making beats in minutes without going into all the music theory so read on before buying anything that you'll regret later.
Unlike other beat making software, this gives you more features for your hard earned cash compared with any software that is directed towards the novice and it does not scrimp on audio quality. DUBTurbo uses top quality sounds that are recorded in professional facilities at CD standard - No MP3's!
I would not touch a beat maker that uses MP3 as its output - the sound quality is compressed too much so you do not get the power and fullness that using WAV files delivers. On top of this, do not buy a one looper either - imagine trying to make an interesting tune if you can only loop 1 bar!
Other aspects I like are that you can record on the fly using your computer keyboard as a piano or synth - no need to buy an expensive keyboard. You can also just insert your sounds like a snare or whatever right onto the timeline for precision (basically like Cubase) but I like to record with the metronome to give a more human feel - its more fun too!
There are loads of videos included for learning more about how to put a tune together with regards to layering, timing and patterns. Once you have mastered the basics, you can import your own sounds into the DUBTurbo beat maker to really give your music the individuality everybody craves. DUBTurbo lets you do it at 16 bit, 44.1kHz stereo wav files - industry CD standard.
To me, being able to import my own stuff, sequence them by either hand drawing or recording on the fly and then being able to export at CD standard is good enough from a beginner beat maker. The other stuff is extra add ons that are nice and put the icing on the cake.
Once you have your beat, you can then go the extra mile and import to a wave editor to really put the final polish on your stuff - A great one is Audacity (its free and has all the tools required like normalize, EQ, loads of effects and mastering tools.) Once this is done, you really will have top quality beats that live up with any professional for a fraction of the cost that these top producers have spent out on. I wish something like this was around when I started instead of spending the money on Cubase, Pro Tools (at least Pro Tools came with Reason and Ableton Live) and Logic Pro!
There is even the opportunity to submit your beats for sale through the DUBTurbo sales roster and enter contests!
There is no such thing as a free lunch!
The "free" beat making software out there is of no use to anybody who wants to make beats at home, either as a hobby or further, as they will not allow you to export your music, you get a limited sound choice, annoying adverts to upgrade etc, etc.
At the moment (February 2011) DUBTurbo is less than $30 (apparently it is going up but this hasn't happened yet) which for a tenth of the price of Cubase, you get mostly the same features.
Starting out this way will save you serious time and money.
It is not a good idea to find a cracked version of this software as there is security measures to monitor log-ins that will get you blacklisted in the music industry and do not download a free version if you do see one as it will be a virus hidden as a .exe file. (Just letting you know!)
Anyway, it is only $29! and it's seriously worth the small amount of money you pay.
Hope I've given you a bit of information in order for you to make the right choice and start unlocking that talent!
Remember folks, quickest way to a man or woman's heart - sing or make a beat for them!
